On-Line Bankruptcy Questionnaire
To begin your bankruptcy case, there is a variety of information that will be needed to prepare for your filing. The initial steps include:
1. Obtaining your credit counseling certificate. If you have not done this, please click on "helpful links" to the left and then click on "approved credit counseling agencies". This link will take you to the Justice Department's website of approved credit counseling agencies. Thereafter, choose the state of Maryland or the District of Columbia and then choose a provider. Your credit counseling can be done over the phone, in person or over the internet. There is a $50.00 charge for the service per filing person. Please note: Your counseling must be complete and your certificate dated BEFORE the date you actually file your case. Failure to obtain a certificate prior to the filing date is fatal to your bankruptcy filing.
2. Gather your personal financial information. To assist you, please click on "required documents" to the left and follow the instructions. It will be very helpful in completing your questionnaire, if you first open all of your mail, put it in chronological order and organize them into the categories provided. Having these documents close will greatly assist in completing the questionnaire. There are also a variety of links on the "helpful links" page to assist you with obtaining the fair market value of your car along with recent home sales prices and a prinout of ownership and purchase information from the SDAT website.
3. After you have obtained your certificate and your financial and personal documents, you will complete the online bankruptcy questionnaire. Get started and begin by entering your social security number below:
